Metal Finishes
We offer various finishes to suit your need for the rifle. It can either be a coating applied on the metal or a chemical treatment thereof. Bluing is a controlled oxidation process which will give the metal a gun blue colour if the process is followed correctly. By cost implication the normal chemical bluing process is the most cost effective to maintain.
Hot Chemichal Bluing:
In this process the metal parts are boiled at a high temperature to enable the chemical reaction to colour the metal. The finish you want on the metal should be applied before this process. We offer 3 finished namely Gloss, Semi Gloss and Bead Blasted, of which the semi gloss id the most economical. This chemical is extremely aggressive to lead and the boiling point very close to the malting point of most solders, so any parts fitted by soldering can separate. Sights that are soldered will be re-fitted with screws but Soldered barrels like double barrel shotguns and rifles cannot be blued with this process.
The following images display the different finishes as indicated.
Rust Bluing:
The rust blue finish is obtained by letting the metal rust under control. A mixture of diluted acids are applied to the metal and is then places in a sweat box where a high humidity is generated by heat which forces the metal to rust. it is then boiled in distilled water which changes the red rust colour to black. The surfaced is then buffed softly leaving a beautiful grey colour. The process is repeated until the required black finish is obtained. Because it is a cold process it is ideally used for soldered double barrel guns.
Cerakote:
Cerakote was specifically developed to be a very hard wearing coat whish works ideally on guns. When applied professionally it is extremely thin and would not effect the function of your firearm. The surface has to be sand blasted in order for the paint to stick which gives it a fairly rough surface. When the heat treatment is done it becomes an extremely hard wearing surface which is practical for hard working rifles. We dont do it in house but we use companies who offer a professional service.
